Resilient Seat Gate Valves for Wastewater Treatment Works

Our dedicated valve specialists in T-T Flow recently worked alongside manufacturer Rotork to deliver actuated gate valves to a wastewater treatment works in Wales.

Beaumaris Wastewater Treatment works, managed by Welsh Water, protects the local environment by treating waste to regulatory standards. During scheduled refurbishment works to ensure the station continues effectively managing incoming waste, T-T Flow were called upon to provide long-lasting replacement gate valves.

Our engineers worked to stringent end-user specifications, assembling, configuring and function testing multiple resilient seat gate valves to ensure suitability before delivering them all to site within a short timeframe.

WRAS approved Aquavault® resilient seat gate valves were chosen as they lend themselves to a wide range of flow isolating duties in potable water, raw water and wastewater with a low solids content. EN1074 and BS5163 compliant design ensure the valves meet pressure-rating, leakage and operational criteria for high-performance isolation, with features such as an EPDM encapsulated wedge providing tighter seals when compared with standard metal seat valves.

In order to withstand the harsh wastewater environment, the supplied isolation valve bodies were manufactured in high-strength ductile iron with a stainless steel non-rising stem.

The addition of a fusion bonded epoxy coating and wax-filled fasteners provide additional corrosion resistance, while the wedges’ self-draining profile prevents containments from forming and affecting isolation performance.

Aquavault® resilient seat gate valves also feature a smooth internal flow path without internal pockets and open to full bore, facilitating uninterrupted flow through the treatment centre for maximum hydraulic efficiency.

Due to the position of the valves and high-pressure flow through the treatment plant, Rotork actuators were fitted to ensure the torque needed to open and close the valves was easily achieved by operators.

Actuation allows sites to implement intelligent automation for more accurate, consistent and efficient valve operation and can be integrated with existing communication protocols for easy installation. Valve actuation also eliminates the need for manual operation and facilities remote real-time monitoring for increased safety and efficiency.
