Surface-Mounted Pumps for Highway Flood Drainage

The T-T Pumps team was approached by a long-standing disciplinary contractor based in the Southern Counties to provide a surface drainage solution for recurrent flooding on an East London highway.

The Problem

Due to excavation restrictions in the area, surface-mounted pumps were necessary for the floodwater drainage application. Because of this, acoustic canopies were necessary to dampen pump operating noises as not to cause a disturbance in the busy urban area.

The Solution

Our pumping experts specified and quoted a competitive flood protection solution that provides a large output volume for effective floodwater management while being easy to operate and maintain.

We supplied two systems consisting of heavy-duty, surface-mounted, diesel-driven centrifugal pumps housed within acoustic canopies. Each set includes an in-built air separator for automatic priming, capable of suction heights of several metres thanks to the sets’ ability to rapidly evacuate air upon starting.

The pumps within each canopy feature semi-open impellers, ideal for handling suspended solids often found in floodwater – this free passage will ensure solid particles do not cause blockages that can inhibit pumping performance or lead to a breakdown.

Lastly, a hinged port on each acoustic canopy gives operatives direct access to the pumps’ impellers without the need for lifting equipment, facilitating safe and easy maintenance.
